Education is the most powerful weapon
which you can use to change the world.
We didn’t just want to bring another pair of socks to the market. We wanted to link it with something good. Not only are Moilo socks ethically made in the EU and packaged in a sheltered workshop which helps its clients socialise and develop useful skills, but every box sold also helps to educate children in Asia. We believe that education is the first step to a better life, truly great ideas and happier, more fulfilled communities.
When looking for our perfect partner, we decided on United World Schools, a well-established British charity. UWS work in some of the world’s poorest regions to give every child access to free education. They cooperate with local communities to teach the unreached and provide life-enhancing opportunities through education. Every box you buy supports:
- Ongoing training and support of teachers
- UWS Education Officers who implement the development programme,
- Bespoke training in new teaching methodologies,
- Books and learning resources,
- Upkeep of schools (vital during the Monsoon season)
Educating one child can impact a family for generations to come. There are several barriers to universal education that UWS works to overcome:
- Lack of schools
- Shortage of teachers
- Unaffordable school fees
- Lack of learning material
- Children not speaking the official language
Education helps children to better understand their human rights, equipping them with the knowledge required to help them reject child marriage, criminality, begging and child labour. They learn the importance of maintaining good hygiene and obtaining basic healthcare when sick and become aware of the dangers of drinking and using dirty water.
Educated children dare to dream that they can be better and realise that their poverty doesn’t define them. And dreaming about what one might become is the first step towards achieving the skills necessary to do so.
With over 61 million children unable to access even basic schooling (UNESCO), we know that your support can make a real difference.
